1969 Mazda R130 Lucé 1310cc

3 x 1969 Mazda R130’s were ordered from Toyo Kogyo Japan by Illings Mazda South Africa. The vehicles were boxed in Japan and shipped to South Africa in August 1970. The vehicles arrived in Durban mid-October 1970 and road freighted to Pine Town, Durban were the boxes were opened and unpacked. A Japanese technician was flown down to South Africa to prepare and start the cars. The Japanese technician damaged one of the R130’s right hand door and were all white with black vinyl tops.

Chassis No: M13P11100 – Mazda R130 was given to Harry Oppenheimer who was at the time the managing director of Anglo American who owned Illings Mazda South Africa. The car was delivered to Mr Oppenheimer and kept at his St. Lucia home in Durban and was regularly used by his caretaker. It is believed that the car was serviced by John Rowe, a racing driver at the time. In 1973 the car was sold to Mr. Dave Robinson. In 1975 the car was sold to Ron Cook who owned Rally Motors in Durban. In 1977 it was sold to P.M.S. van Waardhuizen from 20 Gardenia . . In 1978 Mr van Waardhuizen has the broken 13A engine removed and 12A engine fitted. The work was done by Porters Auto, Paarden Eiland, Cape Town.

This removed broken 13A engine was donated to a technical college. On the 16 October 1979 (date on receipt) it was sold to Mr. Wander Veenstra. In March 1993 it was sold to Mr. Kotie Malan of Hydrenco Engineering Paarden Eiland. In April 1994 it was sold to Willem Du Toit (Willem du Toit Motors Saldanha).

In September 1995 Peanuts Fouche bought the Mazda R130. Epoxy wheels were on the vehicle instead of its original rims. Further more everything is original.
